BOL - Book OnLine is a primary resource to get to know about the product in addition to the numerous blogs & resources on the web. As a best practice I always update my local copies of SQL Server Books Online for versions 2008, 2008 R2 & Denali (CTP). Though I still maintain books online for 6.5, 7.0 and 2000 versions too for a reference.
