For all my consulting tasks I prefer to use SQL Server 2008 R2 Management Studio provided the involved instances are on version 2005 or higher. Recently I bought a new laptop and in process get all necessary tools installed so that I can make use of this new 'beefy' machine , usually my habit is to install the SQL Server instances (versions from 2000 till 2008 R2).
